Research Competition: April 13, 2019
Conference: November 23, 2019

Each school team will select a topic under the overarching themes mentioned below. Under each theme we have suggested some research topics; however, feel free to choose one or select your own. Each research team can submit more than one proposal as long as these fall under different research themes. A maximum of two proposals can be submitted by each team.

 1. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

By 2030, reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.  By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination.

Examples of research topics:

  • How could Qatar better promote mental health and well-being?
  • What could Qatar do to improve air quality?

2. Ensure access to water and sanitation for all

By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.  By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity.

Examples of research topics:

  • How could Qatar increase recycling?
  • How could Qatar improve its water-use efficiency?

3. Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.  By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management.

  • How could Qatar improve road safety?
  • How can Qatar reduce the adverse environmental impact of its cities?

4. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.  By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.

Examples of research topics:

  • How can Qatar reduce waste generation?
